October 2015 President’s Letter

PRESIDENT’S LETTER
October 2015

It’s already October, and it is finally starting to feel like Fall — trees changing color and leaves blowing in the wind.  But is also the beginning of a very busy season for the Zonta Club of Denver II.  Make sure you read the October newsletter to find out what’s coming up.

REMINDER:  The October meeting is being held on Thursday, October 29th – a change from our regular schedule.  Same time, same place.

The District 12 Conference was held September 25-27, 2015 in Boulder, Colorado, and it was a great conference!  Lots of business and training took place.  Here are the highlights:

  • The District 12 Policies & Procedures Revisions:  The Policies & Procedures were revised to correct formatting problems (to make revisions in the future easier), and to add Chapter XI – Honoring a Zontian Upon Death.
  • Treasurer’s Report:  Following a very honest and blunt financial report by our own Terri Otley, District 12 Treasurer, the Operating Budget for the 2016-18 biennium was approved.
  • Proposed changes to the Zonta International Bylaws:  Four amendments to the Zonta International Bylaws are being proposed by the District 12 Board and the Zonta Club of Billings.  The first proposed amendment (to Article XIII) allows an area director to serve in that position again six years after the original term.  The reasoning is that it is getting more difficult (as we know) to find people to step up to serve in those positions.  The next three proposed amendments add language to Articles XI, XIII, and XIV making the nominating committee an autonomous committee.
  • Elections:  The following Zontians were elected to the 2016-18 District 12 Board:

Governor:                    Renee L. Coppock

Lt. Governor:               Deedee Boyson

Treasurer:                   Terri Otley

Area 1 Director:          Andrea Hovey

Area 2 Director:          Vacant

Area 3 Director:          Michelle Medal

Area 4 Director:          Mindy Minor

  • Workshops:  Four workshops were held, and someone from Denver II was able to attend each workshop:

“Club Board Reality Show” (Sharon Faircloth)

“Recruiting and Retention of Members” (Deb Ureel)

“Grant Writing Basics” (Carol Letter and Terri Otley)

“Social Media” (Ginni Dickinson and Carol Leffler)

  •  Awards Banquet:  Finally the awards banquet was held where Suzanne Fasing and Ellen Fitzpatrick were honored as our Zontians of the Year.  And, the Zonta Club of Denver II was awarded the Advocacy Award for the 2014-2015 fiscal year.  Thank you to Suzanne Fasing and Sharon Faircloth for their hard work to make it possible to receive this award.

If you have not had a chance to attend a District 12 Conference or Governor’s Seminar in the past, I would encourage everyone try to attend in the future.  It’s a great time to learn about the business of District 12, meet and mingle with people around the District, and receive training.

If you haven’t noticed yet, the Zonta Club of Denver II’s Facebook page is active again.  Please find the page, like it, follow it, and like and share our posts with all of your friends!  Thank you to Ginni Dickinson for her hard work to get us into the social media realm.

Hope to see you all on October 29, 2015!

Carol Leffler
