An official shout-out and welcome to Marie Cardinale who was inducted into Zonta Club of Denver II at our September meeting. If you have not had an opportunity to introduce yourself to Marie, please do so. We are so pleased to have her energy and enthusiasm seep into our membership. We would love a few more members just like Marie – so please send us the names and e-mail addresses of prospective members with whom you come in contact. We will be happy to send them an “official” invitation to an upcoming general meeting.

Thanksgiving with Bridging the Gap
Tuesday, November 18
Cooking Lesson 5:00 p.m.
Dinner 6:00 p.m.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church
3549 Navajo St.
Denver
This was a most popular and successful event in which we partnered with Bridging the Gap to bring a family-style Thanksgiving Dinner with all the trimmings to their participants. In fact, it was so successful that they are wondering if we can expand it to accommodate more people! We will discuss at the August meeting what we are able to provide and what we are able to do to continue this wonderful way to build family and community at the holidays. To expand, we will need more volunteers for food and clean-up!

The Learning Source
Thanks to all who volunteered to help at the 50th Anniversary celebration on October 9: Pat Congleton, Deb Ureel, Jan Hoyt, Carol Leffler, Sharon Faircloth, Jean Griswold, Jeannie Snider, Ellen Fitzpatrick, and Lois Britton. Your help was very much appreciated by the Board of Directors, the guests, and Jeff and Debbie Lovill who chaired the silent auction. Because of you, everything went smooth!
SafeHouse Denver
The Zonta Club of Denver II wine basket for the silent auction was delivered Thursday, October 9, to SafeHouse. Thanks to all who donated items for the basket!
The SafeHouse Gala is Saturday, October 18, at the Ritz-Carlton; thanks to Mary, Lois, and Julia for volunteering!
There will be a holiday mailing in mid-November; we’ll provide the date/time and details when they are available.
Excelsior
On Thursday, October 2, Barb and Carla designed and painted wooden Halloween masks with the teen girls at Excelsior. This was the first time that we did the activity at the Teen Center. The room was nice and cozy with windows to the outside. The environment at the Teen Center was much better than doing activities in the cottage. All of the girls participated in the decorating of the masks. I did take some pictures and will forward them at a later date. Carla provided the icing and cookie sprinkles to decorate sugar cookies in Halloween themes. It was a great event for the 14 girls and staff. The November event will be a fall theme. If you are interested in attending, please let Suzanne or Barb know.
Central Visitation Program
CVP needs five volunteers for its fund raiser on Friday, November 7 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event will be held at Gallery 1261 at the same address on Delaware Street in Denver. If you would like to volunteer, please let Barb know by November 3, in order to get the volunteers on the list and have name tags
Florence Crittenton School
Annual luncheon is October 16, 11:30 a.m., at the Sewall Ballroom. Contact Jean Griswold or Flo Crit directly if interested in attending.
CWEE
The CWEE Annual luncheon is October 22, 11:30 a.m., at the Hyatt Regency. You may buy tickets on the CWEE website or contact CWEE directly.
CWEE Boutique
Sharon and Lois went through mountains of clothes in the CWEE Boutique, vacuumed and dusted and hauled discarded clothes by the car full two Saturdays in the last month and really whipped the Boutique into shape! We learned a lesson—the Brownies do NOT come in and do the work while we’re gone! We will be sorting clothes again on Saturday, October 25 from 9 a.m until 1:00 if you would like to join us.
Mariposa House
Contact Deb Ureel if interested in volunteering for the Halloween Party.
BRING ITEMS FOR THE SAFEHOUSE WELCOME BAGS, GROCERIES FOR EMPOWERMENT, AND BOOKS FOR THE LEARNING SOURCE (novels, children’s books) to the meeting on October 23.
Freedom Service Dogs
Graduation will be December 13, 12:30 p.m., at Craig Hall at DU. This is a new venue for the graduation ceremony due to 30 dogs graduating! Join us for the graduation ceremony of military veterans and all clients paired with their service dogs after months of waiting and training. Light fare provided.
Here is the link to more parking information on the DU campus: https://www.parking.du.edu/visitor/default.aspx Parking is $6 for 3 hours or less or $8 for 3 hours to a full day. Visitor parking is $1.50/hour, but spots are limited. Parking on the street is limited to 1 or 2 hours close to campus, but opens up about 5-6 blocks off campus. Lot E is closest to Craig Hall, behind the gate arm (not in the hourly spots on the first floor of the garage- you will get ticketed if you park in an hourly spot). Lot E is located at the intersection of High Street and Evans Avenue, off of High Street, just north of Craig Hall (2148 S High St, Denver, CO 80208). See the DU parking map. From the parking garage, Craig Hall is a very short distance.
Please let Barbara Anders know if you are interested in volunteering for this event. I’ll have the cakes, supplies, etc. If you need to carpool because of the parking issues, please let me know that, too.
