July 2016 President’s Letter

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
– Margaret Mead

We have seen the above quote of Margaret Mead before, but I think it is very fitting to Zonta, especially since the Zonta International Convention was just held in Nice, France, the first week in July.

While I was unable to attend, I know from past Zonta International conventions what a powerful experience it can be. The opening ceremony, the world-class speakers, the education, the leadership training, and the excursions are just a handful of what can be experienced. Not to mention the opportunity to mingle and make friends with like-minded women from around the world. One of my favorite memories is the announcement and presentation of the biennium’s service projects and the amazement when you learn how much can be accomplished for so little money when partnering with another organization.

Of course it must be said that we were all stunned by the terrorist attack in Nice, France, the week following the Zonta International Convention. The word from Zonta International is that all Zontians traveling and who live in Nice are safe. But, our hearts and prayers still go out to those affected.

However, hoping that a little bit of that excitement from the Convention can rub off on the rest of us, our delegation (Marcy O’Toole (now former District Governor), Deb Ureel (club delegate), Terri Otley (District 12 Treasurer) and Sharon Faircloth (District 12 Colorado Advocacy Representative) will share their experiences, stories, and results from the ZI Convention.

Hope to see everyone on July 28th!
