Finance

Exciting news!  The 2015 Zonta Club of Denver II Candi Meininger Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at Red Rocks Country Club.  June 15, 2015 has been reserved.  The Finance Committee is very excited about this new venue for the golf tournament!

Just a reminder, our annual Holiday Fundraiser is approaching.  The Finance Committee will be meeting soon to determine the inventory of plants and greenery needed, so please let us know if you anticipate any large orders this year so that we can plan accordingly.  The Holiday Fundraiser will officially kick off at the September general meeting.

At the club’s annual retreat held on Saturday, July 12, potential new fundraising ideas were discussed to take advantage of the Club’s 501(c)(3) status, including:

  • A virtual invitation announcing our new public charity status and suggesting donations.  Lois will be preparing a proposed announcement to be reviewed by the Finance Committee.  If successful, we may hold an annual fundraising mailing on International Women’s Day.
  • An event to be held on Friday, September 12, to celebrate the Club’s 501(c)(3) status.  Julia will be spearheading the planning, with the help of Jeannie Snider, Jean Griswold and Pat Congleton.
  • A wine tasting event to be held on March 8 to celebrate International Women’s Day.  Initial inquiries regarding this event will be done by at the next Board meeting where Deb Ureel’s daughter (who works for a wine distributor) will be present to discuss the options for this type of event.

Taste of Colorado

There is still time to volunteer to sell tickets at the Taste of Colorado over Labor Day weekend. All the booths are manned (or womanned) by volunteer organizations. The Taste donates about $7 an hour for each hour worked back to the organizations. You don’t have to sell to your friends, you don’t have to get sponsors, you don’t have to solicit prizes, you don’t have to spend money! The shifts are four hours and you will be working with Zonta friends! Lois has to turn in all names of volunteers by August 7 so contact her if you are interested. You may invite family and friends to volunteer with you! If you’re not sure when you can work but think you can commit to doing a shift or two, just sign up now. We can work out the details later.

Service

CWEE

We sort clothing in the boutique at the Center for Work Education and Employment once a month. Contact Lois Britton or Sharon Faircloth to get on the call list. The next date is Saturday, August 2 from 9-noon. We need a team this month!

The Delores Project

Would anyone like to “Share Dinner” at Carmine’s on Penn on Tuesday, Sept. 2 (the day after Labor Day) to support the Dolores Project? We could go as a “Zonta Group.” Contact Mary if you’re interested.

Empowerment

To help with quarterly activities at Mariposa House, contact Deb Ureel.

Excelsior

To volunteer at Excelsior Youth Center, contact Barb Anders. Since some of the girls are under 18, all volunteers have to attend a training session and have a background check. Barb will connect you with the volunteer coordinator to get things rolling.

The Learning Source

The Learning Source will celebrate its 50th Anniversary on Thursday, October 9, 6 p.m., at Colorado History Museum. It would be great to have a table of Zontians–individual tickets sell for $50. Also, if you can obtain items for the silent auction, that would be awesome! Contact Mary.

Safehouse

On Saturday, Oct. 18 SafeHouse will host its annual gala at the Ritz. Shannon is hoping for 5 volunteers from Zonta to help with setting up the Silent Auction, and some folks might be asked to help with the tablets used to bid on the Silent Auction items (there will be training provided that night). The time commitment is 4pm to 10pm (possibly 11pm). Folks who are interested should let JoAnn Mattson know, so she can pass on their names to Shannon. They would like to know names by mid-August, however if we get them by the August Zonta meeting that will be fine.

If you would like to donate something for the Zonta basket for the Silent Auction, talk to Barb Anders or JoAnn Mattson.

Thank you to all who volunteered for the mailing on July 17, including our prospective members Allison and Chris, whom we hope to meet at the August meeting.

Service Committee Meeting

The Service Committee will meet on Thursday, July 24, 6 p.m., at Mary’s home. All are invited to attend. Contact Mary at 303-283-9676 or memwar@comcast.net

Membership

Jan and Carol are super-charged after the great 2014 retreat at Mt. Vernon Country Club – what a great day! We really like the ideas for our Committee which came out of the retreat…especially notifying the membership in advance of our guest names and a little about them. This will really help us – and you – make our guests feel more welcome when they are attending their first meetings. We have several women who have shown a big interest in Zonta and, in particular, our Club so be on the lookout for several guests at the August meeting! We do plan on having a New Member/Potential Member Orientation the end of this month. All members will be welcome to attend. More information will follow as we firm up a date and location. Stay tuned and continue to let Jan and/or Carol know of any potential members you would like us to invite to a general meeting.
